Facial Onlay Prosthesis:

When a patient has to undergo an exenteration (orbital) it involves the surgical removal of all the orbital contents. Sometimes, this also includes removal of the eyelids.

Prosthetic restoration of the defect following orbital exenteration begins with the fabrication of an ocular prosthesis around which the rest of the orbital prosthesis is created.

An impression of the cavity is needed for a good fit. From there we can rebuild what was lost. Various techniques can be used to achieve the best possible result.

Fixing the prosthesis in place may be achieved with adhesives or with bone implants coupled with magnets inserted into the prosthesis.
